Empty Event Venues and Sports Stadiums want fans back

South Africa has celebrated Level 1 of the Covid-19 lockdown in Heritage Month which means the easing of social gathering laws. Event venues and sports stadiums can open. Marginally. Introducing Hermetic Mobility’s Safe Solution for Event Venues and Sports Stadiums.

A maximum of 250 people may gather indoors with a maximum of 500 outdoors. The event venue or sports stadium must operate at 50% capacity and support social distancing. It is mandatory to wear face masks and practice good hygiene. International air travel will commence on the 1st October. A huge sigh of relief for the tourism and hospitality industries who have been hardest hit by this global pandemic.

“The significant impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has extended to sport with the cessation of nearly all professional and non-professional events globally. Recreational parks and fitness centers have closed. The challenge remains to get athletes back to participation in the safest way, balancing the protection of their health while curbing the societal transmission of the virus.”

SASMA – The South African Sports Medicine Association

According to the paper, three pillars of strategy exist to reduce transmission.

  1. Test: suspected cases where possible; this must be done where it is clinically appropriate with preventative strategies in place.
  2. Contact tracing: measures should be in place to follow-up on all confirmed cases of Covid-19. All contacts traced to identify and stop transmission.
  3. Treatment: cases should be managed effectively. Governments should provide adequate numbers of hospital beds, and ICU treatment.

The Safe Solution

Hermetic Mobility Screening Suite can be the new face to your event venue or sports stadium. The line of defense needed to stop Covid-19 in its tracks. The container can monitor, disinfect, and control access with dedicated channels into your event venue or sports complex. Forward-looking infrared cameras detect symptomatic personnel moving through the channels. This is the way back to events and sports safely.

South Africans are social creatures. On the back seat of Heritage month celebrations this past weekend eager to get back to a new normal. This heritage includes live events and sports. The most notable sports event cancelled by the Covid-19 pandemic is the Tokyo 2020 Olympics – which have been postponed to July 23 – August 8 2021.

Events must go on

“The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) announced an outline of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay planned for 2021. The Olympic Torch Relay will start its journey on 25 March 2021.” Tokyo2020.org

The British and Irish Lions Tour set to take place across South Africa in 2021 displays a Covid-19 tour guarantee on their website. Encouraging fans to get back to spectating sport, safely. Offering flexible payment terms and low initial deposits to fans. The need for safe solutions for event venues and sports stadiums is a necessity.

Biz Community interviewed Steve Cuzen, CEO of ticketing company Howler. “South Africans are very entrepreneurial so now that the restrictions have been slightly lifted – they will adapt their events to make sure they fit in with the current regulations while providing that much-needed live entertainment we all miss. Even if it means breaking up their events across multiple venues, we will find a way to make it work.”

According to the Planner Guru, The SA Events Council, a coalition of 13 event industry associations, the Meetings, Incentives, Conference, Exhibitions (MICE) industry contributed 11.4% of foreign tourism in 2019.

“That same year, South Africa hosted 103 international association meetings and a total of 39,579 international delegates culminating in an estimated economic impact of international association meetings of R905 million for the year.” Tes Proos, SA Events Council Chairperson.
